Easter and Pets: Safety and Responsibility from Lost Pet PR

Traveling with animals requires planning ahead, seasonal treats and items such as Easter grass can be toxic or even deadly. Are you going to be hosting a large family gathering which may lead to pets bolting out of the house? Think first and and set some rules for a pet-safe celebration in advance.

  • Hosting a big get-together? Designate a space for the pets to stay secured.
  • Make sure everyone knows who is to walk the animals rather than allowing anyone to let them out.
  • Keep chocolate, sweets and goodies out of reach.
  • Lilies are toxic to cats. Give them away to a non-cat household instead.
  • Make sure all pets are wearing collars and I.D. tags
  • Be aware of dangers such as a kitchen full of food that dogs may get into, Easter grass, etc.
  • Remember to include the whole family in planning
  • Teach respect for animals by not buying bunnies

Involve the whole family in planning to keep pets safe. Away from the food and possible toxic treats is best.

An animal is not a fun stuffed plush toy that can be discarded a few days later.

An animal is not meant for a gift and then ignored.

Easter lilies are toxic to cats.

Easter grass, sweets and candies are a no-no for pets.

If you think your pet has ingested something toxic you can reach these sites 24/7 (fees apply, but during an emergency being able to know what to do is priceless)

Should your pet accidentally escape, read over this important information right away: "What to do when your pet is missing"

Prevention is always best. Taking a few minutes to plan ahead for the animals ensures that everyone will enjoy a great holiday.
