Missing Animals, Lost Pets and a Message To Our Owners

We would like to address some things which have been shared around our area. We know that a dog was shot and killed last week (the lab Ginger from MD) and we sincerely hope that the criminal(s) who did that are found. During the same time frame a few other stories surfaced regarding other missing/stolen dogs, in addition to a report of one found deceased, some let out of kennels or taken off their chain while outdoors.

We will pass along news when we have definite info but since we can't verify all the details we don't want to share misinformation. With that said, any warnings we may be stating would be no different than we have said in the past: OWNERS, BE AWARE OF POSSIBLE DANGERS TO YOUR ANIMALS.

* If your pet escapes or goes missing, do not delay. Start your search immediately.

* If your dogs are kept in outdoor kennels then you need a security system, locks and cameras. Better yet, bring them inside.

* If it's 100 degrees and your dogs are outside there is a chance that someone may see that and be concerned they may overheat. While we do not condone stealing, if a dog is sitting on a chain in weather such as we have today.....not sure what else to say here.

* Pets go missing all the time and most recoveries take place within the first 24 hours. While they are out there your animal IS at risk of being picked up, injured or falling into the wrong hands. Thus our continued advice to act quickly and never sit back and assume that they will return home on their own, safe and sound. There are evil people out there.

* Quite often a lost dog is shared which was "let out to go potty and never returned". Just don't do that. Stay with them. Use a leash.

* Missing dog #1 from last week: she was found shortly after she escaped from her home, picked up by someone and sold for $70. We are thankful that someone developed a conscience after seeing the flyers which the owner posted immediately, which likely led to the return of her dog. The fact remains that a found animal is not your property to sell or give away and yet we see this happen all the time.

* Missing dog #2 from last week: was lost in Georgetown, DE, found and taken home by concerned people....to PA. Once scanned for a chip the next morning, the owners made an 8-hour round trip to recover their beloved pet. Dog was kept safe and is home which is the goal, however you should be aware that animals can be picked up and relocated.

We cannot stress enough that a lot of lost animals never get home. Listed above are some of the reasons why that happens. Please, think, plan ahead, don't gamble, act quickly. YOU are their best prevention against a tragic loss, theft or death.
