"Prevention is the best option" ~ This helpful reminder comes to us from the amazing folks at Lost Dogs of Wisconsin, who for years have been a brilliant resource for recovery of missing pets. Their basic, preventative measure could be a real lifesaver, enclosing the space around a front door to keep animals from bolting out. Pictured here is a tension-style barrier shown here in a hallway, or you could also use a free-standing gate design to secure the area around the doorway, which may wind up being the difference between an escape or keeping your pet safely home.
The second image shown below from the Sheltie Rescue group on Facebook, is another reminder that placing a barrier can be a huge help in keeping furry family members safe. Just a little planning - even if you have well trained animals - can make all the difference when the door opens for a delivery person or neighbor, as any dog may spy something exciting and bolt right out the door.
When we adopt a mindset geared towards "prevention of risky situations".....we lessen the chances of a loose, terrified animal. Small hacks, such as limiting access to potential escape routes, help plan for potential issues while training our brains to always look around and evaluate safety standards, and that's a winning scenario.
